“I’m so happy I got to tour Ukraine in 2007 together with four Ukrainian and three Swedish musicians. I experienced a vibrant and diverse country, full of regional character and cultural richness. I loved the experimental music scene, performing with my friends, and the long train journeys that stitched it all together.
Although I didn’t have Ukraine specifically in mind when I created this music, the stream of news reports in recent years deeply shaped its direction. Gånggrifts general theme of decay could be thought of as global instead of personal. A reflection of a world veering off course.
I hope Ukraine continues to endure to remain a free and peaceful country. I know that experimental music won’t help much, but that’s what I got. This album on I Shall Sing Until My Land Is Free is a small way of giving something back for the rich memory and experience I had in Ukraine. I hope to return someday!”
